Zoom One at a Glance

What is Zoom One?

Zoom One is a communications platform that enables people to connect, message, video chat, and collaborate on tasks. It’s suitable for individuals, small and medium-sized businesses, and larger companies. It brings team members together to exchange ideas, share files, and complete projects no matter the location.

Without a convenient and effective communications solution, your team can't finish their work. This leads to dissatisfied co-workers, disgruntled customers, and significant revenue loss. Zoom One prevents these outcomes with its cost-friendly, feature-filled, and easy-to-use platform.

Zoom One features

Video conferencing

Zoom One's Meetings feature enables video chatting and messaging across many devices. You can host, invite, schedule, and manage meetings, and save new contacts. Meetings in the free plan last 40 minutes, whereas you can talk for 30 hours on other plans.

Local and cloud storage

If you wish to access your call recordings, Zoom One stores them on your device or cloud storage account. Only the paid plans have cloud storage, offering from 5GB to an unlimited amount.

Admin portal

You can use one central account—known as the Admin portal—to manage Zoom users in your company. It enables you to adjust account settings, simplify billing, gather usage insights, etc. to enhance user experience.

Zoom phone

The Enterprise plan has a Zoom phone feature. It offers unlimited internal calling, metered and unlimited outbound calling, high definition (HD) call quality, voicemail transcription, toll-free numbers, and more.

Integration and compatibility

Zoom One offers Essential Apps for growing and managing your business as part of your paid plan. They include AI Notetaker by Fathom and AI Name Tags by Warmly. You’ll get the premium version of the apps free for one year. After the year ends, you’ll be downgraded to the free version, or you can pay to continue using the premium one.

Zoom One also has useful add-ons, like Zoom Scheduler—which integrates with Google, Calendar, etc.—to book meetings.

Is Zoom One Safe and Reliable?

Zoom One uses end-to-end encryption (E2EE) for Zoom Meetings, preventing Zoom or anyone else from accessing the meeting. It also has 256-bit AES-GCM encryption to mask content, media, and caller ID, or set blocked calls lists.

Its certifications come from organizations like the International Organization for Standardization 27001 Standard (ISO 27001), the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP), and the Security Trust Assurance and Risk (STAR) Program. They verify that Zoom One has adequate security controls, cloud service protections, secure communications, and user privacy.

On reliability and uptime, there have been complaints about audio issues on the Zoom app, especially after updates. Zoom prioritizes various complaints and will respond to downtime within an hour, performance issues within four hours, and general issues by the next business day. Check the Zoom Status page on the website to see whether the service is operational or whether maintenance is going on.

How Zoom One Works

With Zoom One, you can take part in meetings, chat with your team, make phone calls, send text messages, and more. You’ll need to download the Zoom desktop client or mobile app to begin using the service.

How to Get Started With Zoom One / How to Sign Up for Zoom One

Getting started with Zoom One is straightforward. I found the setup process to be clear and anyone who isn’t tech-savvy can navigate the steps with minimal effort. Here is how you can set up your Zoom:

  1. Create an account Use your email address to sign up to Zoom and activate your account when prompted.

  2. Update your profile - Fill in the details for your account—such as the name and password—and add a profile picture.

  3. Download the Zoom app or client - While you can access Zoom’s web portal to use the services, you can also download the Zoom app or client for your devices. Log in when you’re ready to use the apps.

  4. Check the settings - Review the settings and select your video and audio preferences.

  5. Read resources - Go to the support section and learn how to schedule, host, and join meetings, or to use other Zoom One features.

  6. Test the meeting - Use the Test meeting feature to get comfortable with the Zoom video and confirm the visual and audio settings are working well.

Once everything is in order, you can begin using Zoom One to interact with others and share files.

Zoom One Customer Service

Zoom One offers many support options: a knowledge base, learning center, blog, web tickets, live chat, chatbot, phone support, and video meetings with an agent. I found the knowledge base, blog, and learning center provided a lot of free, valuable content on using the service. I also liked the Zoom Community, where the members were responsive and helpful.

The chatbot is basic but can provide some useful guidance if you select one of its listed topic choices. If the bot can’t answer, you can proceed to live chat—available 24/7—if you’ve paid for a subscription.

Web tickets and live phone support are also only available to paying users, but only the Business and Enterprise plan subscribers get a video meeting with an agent.

There are many complaints on review sites like Trustpilot regarding the quality of customer support. Reviewers with paid plans said that web tickets were closed without a response and account cancellations took a long time to resolve despite repeated messages to the support team. Besides, it takes a while to get an agent to handle your problem.

Zoom One does have Premier Support plans offering priority responses, speedier problem resolutions, and a global technical account team.

How to Cancel or Pause a Zoom One Subscription

You can cancel your Zoom One subscription before your next invoice date through the Zoom web portal. If you paid through a direct sales quote, email your dedicated Account Executive or renewals@zoom.us to end your paid plan. Cancellations become effective at the next renewal date. Only an account owner, admin, or someone with billing privileges can stop future subscriptions.

If your account is eligible for a refund, you can receive a prorated refund if you submit the request within 30 days of the renewal.

Is There a Zoom One App?

Zoom One has an app for iOS and Android which operates like its web portal. I liked the app’s features and how straightforward it was to use. The app is free, has high customer ratings, and enables you to pay for plans from within it. Regardless, several commenters complained about Bluetooth disconnections and audio issues.

How Much Does Zoom One Cost?

Zoom One offers several plans: Basic, Pro, Business, and Enterprise. You can also get Business Plus or Enterprise Plus plans by contacting the Sales team. Paid plans are per month/per user, but you can save up to 16% with an annual plan and pay per year/per user.

The Basic plan is free, and I thought it had adequate features for personal and small business use, which I’ve highlighted in a section below. The rest are paid plans offering extra licenses, editable whiteboards, longer meeting durations, storage, collaboration, and access to more customer service options.

Live chat is only available for plans greater than $50/month, whereas live phone support is available for subscriptions greater than $200 USD/month. Video meetings with customer service agents are available for the Business and Enterprise plans with subscriptions greater than $200 USD/month.

The Pro plan is a useful upgrade if you need additional features for personal or small business use. The Business plan works well for a medium-sized business, whereas the Enterprise plan offers better features for a larger company. The industry average pricing is around $10-$25 per user/per month, although the number of features may vary across providers.

What can you do with Zoom One for free?

With the free Basic plan, you can host meetings on Zoom One with up to 100 participants, each gathering lasting up to 40 minutes. Other features include screen-sharing on desktops and apps, managing meeting attendees through the waiting room feature, and using fun filters, avatars, and virtual backgrounds.

Furthermore, you can select videos for the whole meeting to see, use up to three editable whiteboards, engage in one-to-one or group chats, search contacts and messages, send files securely, access customer support options, etc.

Optional add-ons

Zoom One has several optional add-ons you can buy:

  • Cloud Storage - From $10 per month to store, download, or stream recordings from Zoom Cloud.

  • Large Meetings - From $50 per month to increase meeting capacity to 500 or more.

Zoom One vs RingCentral MVP

RingCentral MVP is a highly-rated VoIP, but it’s more expensive than Zoom One. It only offers a 14-day free trial, while Zoom One provides a free Basic plan with extensive features. Moreover, Zoom One provides more app integrations than its rival to improve user experience. Both offer an iOS or Android mobile app.

Zoom One vs Vonage

Vonage has excellent conferencing solutions, but it costs slightly more than Zoom One and doesn’t offer any free trial version. Its customer support options are also more limited, comprising live chat, phone, and email support but not web ticketing or video calling. Both have a mobile app for Android and iOS.

Zoom One vs GoTo Connect

GoTo Connect only offers two plans and costs more than Zoom One, which also has several plans to suit different customers. Both have a mobile app for Android and iOS. However, GoTo Connect doesn’t have as many integrations as Zoom One, and its customer support has fewer options as well.

Bottom Line (Is Zoom One Worth It?)

Zoom One stands out for its ease of use and affordable communications solutions compared to its industry rivals. I liked that the Basic plan was free but offered many essential features for chatting, messaging, and collaborating with others. Furthermore, the company has many certifications and security additions to maintain your privacy and confidentiality.

With several plans to choose from and adequate features for scaling a business, Zoom One is certainly worth considering to meet your needs.
