Before committing to one or the other, though, you'll want to familiarize yourself with the highlights of each.
Web.com gives you access to more than 2,500 templates, also called themes. Your template represents the complete layout and design of your site, so it’s important to have access to attractive options. This isn’t a problem with Web.com as hundreds of these templates are truly stunning. Best of all, you can even search by industry and find templates designed specifically for law firms, medical practices, journalists, and even bands.
The templates offered by Wix are similarly sleek and beautiful, but there aren’t quite as many of them. Also, it’s not quite as easy to find quality templates for specific needs and industries. They’re out there, but the selection isn’t quite as plentiful. With that in mind, we have to give the edge to Web.com.
Winner: Wix. While it might have less options than Web.com the templates it does offer are clean, professional and use to customize.
Comparing Ease of Use
When it comes to ease of use, Web.com is an industry leader. The simple layout and seamless drag-and-drop format make it easy for anyone to create a flawless website in under an hour. The editor even walks you through the process step by step, so there’s no guesswork required on your part. Just choose your template, and then start adding text, images, videos, and other elements. You can resize images by dragging the corners, move elements around the page, and change your text styles and colors as easily as you would in a word processor.
Wix.com is also designed for simplicity, but it has a bit more of a learning curve. After you select your template and enter your primary elements, it’s then up to you to figure out the various menu commands along the left column of your editor screen. Some of the icons don’t clearly indicate what they do, so you’ll have to poke around for a while and experiment in order to get the hang of it.
Winner: Web.com. On the one hand, Wix gives you a bit more freedom, but on the other hand, Web.com is typically a more comfortable and user-friendly choice for beginners.
Ecommerce Features Comparison
In terms of Eccommerce, Wix has a slight edge. Though the website builder is a bit more complicated, this actually works in the company’s favor for Ecommerce because it allows users to fine-tune every aspect of their store and secure the greatest number of sales. For example, the fully customizable product galleries add a touch of class to any store, and multiple available payment solutions allow you to save on your credit card transactions.
Web.com works with a single credit card merchant, Simplify Commerce; Wix, though, gives you a choice of several partners, so you can compare their options and transaction fees and decide what works best for your business.
Winner: Wix. It has a dedicated Ecommerce plan to is ideal for online stores.
Wix is one of the most reasonably priced website builders out there. There’s even a free version that provides you with up to 500MB of storage; just be aware that with the free version your visitors will see Wix advertisements on your site, and you can’t use your own domain. Ad-free memberships start at $4.50 per month, and unlimited-bandwidth plans start at $12.50 per month. For $16.50 per month, you can build a complete Ecommerce store with unlimited bandwidth.
Web.com plans start at $22.95 per month, and that’s for the basic plan. For added marketing features, the rate is $32.95 per month. For Ecommerce, it’s $42.95. Granted, the costlier Web.com plan does have a few extra frills, including unlimited storage (no Wix plan currently offers unlimited storage), but the added benefits may be unnecessary for a lot of smaller businesses.
Winner: Wix. Overall Wix has more plans available, which means you can get the exact services you need for your website.
One of the cool things about Web.com is its array of organizational tools. For example, your content management system includes a calendar to keep you organized. Web.com even provides a library of thousands of royalty-free images to help you truly customize your site.
Wix now offers an artificial intelligence known as Wix ADI, which could prove to be a game changer for the web-building industry. With Wix ADI, all you have to do is answer a few simple questions and provide a few basic details, and the application will then build a website according to your needs. It’s still in its early stages, but it’s already showing great potential.
Winner: Web.com. It offers a variety of website building tools and extras that can help make your website stand out.
This one truly is a tough choice. On the one hand, Web.com is remarkably easy to use, and its selection of professional, high-quality themes is second to none. Still, we have to give the edge to Wix.
Overall Winner: Wix. It offers one of the best values in the business, and its artificial intelligence feature could soon put the platform light years beyond all of the competition.
