Services Covered

North American offers a laundry-list of services for your move and is considered one of the best full service moving companies in the country. To start, the company covers local, long-distance, and international moves of any size — so you can be confident that North American can help with your particular move.

This moving company offers loading and unloading services as well as packing and unpacking help if you need it, although you’ll pay extra. North American can also arrange in-transit storage, a shuttle from your old to new home for you and your family, and transportation for your vehicles. If you have fragile items, the company will help you with custom packing and crating so that you can be confident your belongings will arrive in good condition.

One of the best things North American offers is free shipment tracking with every move. Trucks are tracked by satellite, so you can log into the company’s website at any time to find out exactly where your stuff is and when it’s expected to arrive.

To recap, North American Van Lines offers the following services:

  • Local, long-distance, and international moves
  • Loading and unloading
  • Packing and unpacking
  • In-transit storage
  • Free satellite shipment tracking
  • Vehicle transportation
  • Shuttle service

Pricing

North American isn’t the cheapest moving company on the market, especially for local moves. To give an example, moving a four-bedroom home from Chicago to Dallas — a distance of less than 1,000 miles — was quoted at over $10,000 before additional services. A smaller move of a two-bedroom home from California to Oregon costs around $6,000.

North American Moving Form

Unfortunately, North American doesn’t give you the option of deciding whether your belongings will be on a truck by itself or mixed in with other peoples’ items. The price estimate is the same, even if the shipping speed may vary.

Moving Process

The first step in the moving process at North American is to generate an online quote. The quote system doesn’t go all that in-depth into how much stuff you have to move, so take this quote as a rough estimate.

If you want a more accurate price, the company does work with a network of more than 500 moving agents nationwide to offer in-home estimates. However, keep in mind that these agents are often backed up and you may need to schedule an in-home appraisal several weeks in advance.

Once you’ve settled on North American, you’re assigned a manager who will help coordinate your move. If you need any extra services, such as packing and unpacking, your move coordinator can arrange that on your behalf. Your coordinator will also work with you to finalize moving dates and arrange a shuttle to your new home if needed.

If you need in-transit storage as part of your move, your coordinator can also arrange this service. North American doesn’t own storage warehouses, but works with a network of local storage facilities around the country.

During the move, you’ll have access to real-time updates on the whereabouts of your belongings. All North American trucks are tracked by satellite. Simply log onto the company’s website with your account information to find out where the truck carrying your stuff is and when it’s expected to arrive at your new home.

Fleet Details

North America has one of the largest operational fleets in the U.S., with more than 2,700 trucks on the road. That’s a huge advantage if you need to move on a tight timeline since it ensures that a truck is heading in the direction you need at any given time.

North American Moving Truck

On top of that, North American works with a network of more than 500 local moving agents. The company sometimes contracts these local movers for packing and loading services, but drivers are professional long-haul truckers with long histories of working for North American.

Customer Service

North American offers customer support via email or phone. For phone support, the company has staff available during weekday business hours as well as on weekends. On top of that, North American’s website is filled with moving resources, including checklists, calculators, and recommended timelines that you can use to help plan your move.

Importantly, North American offers basic liability insurance on all of your belongings as part of every move. This insurance includes a $0.60 per pound payout in the event that anything is lost or damaged during the move. If you don’t have coverage from homeowners insurance, North American recommends that you opt for maximum value insurance coverage to fully insure the value of your belongings.

Testimonials

“The overall experience was great. Our movers were very professional and took care and interest in my belongings.” — Jimmy Solomon

“The North American agent in [Oklahoma City] was fantastic. They were on time and efficient. The guys that were packing and loading were hustling. They placed pads on all of our doorways and corners, and they wrapped all of our furniture. When they arrived in Chicago, they called to change the timeline because of traffic outside of Chicago.” — Ryan

“They initially came to our home to do a quick inventory of our items and then we scheduled the move. On moving day, they arrived as scheduled, friendly and efficient. They ensured the floors were covered … They packed our entire house (three bedrooms, two baths) within eight hours and had the catalog list prior to leaving. I was extremely pleased with this service and now can’t imagine moving without it.” — Flore

Bottom Line

North American Van Lines stands out for the quality of its service. The company offers just about everything you could want as part of a move, including in-transit storage, satellite tracking of your shipment, and a shuttle for you and your family to your new home. With one of the largest fleets in North America and a network of more than 500 local agents, you also don’t have to worry about availability for your desired moving dates. The downside to using North American is that the company’s premium service comes with a high price tag.

Do not use - one the worst moving experiences I've ever had!
I don't often leave reviews and when I do, it's mostly positive reviews to reward efforts made by a business. However, the nightmare experience I had with this company was simply too much for me to ignore. I engaged North American VanLines to help facilitate my relocation from the US back to New Zealand. It should also be noted that I've lived in 5 countries so this was by no means my first relocation. Initially the contact was good and after comparing their quote to another company I had researched, I chose these guys for the job. And that ended up being a decision I deeply regret. As I was moving during Covid and at a time where New Zealand had strict quarantine rules, the timing of my move and travel had to be timed to match all entry and quarantine rules. With about a week to go before my move (and after I had followed up multiple times to ensure my packing/moving date was locked in), the company got in touch to say that oh, sorry - we're not able to come on the agreed date anymore and did I want to cancel my booking or choose another, later time? I called them, furious of course, to again explain that the date we had agreed was closely matched with my flights, entry allowance into NZ etc and there simply wasn't the flexibility to just "pick another date". At this point, their VP got involved and managed to sort this out. Great, I thought. Except that this ended up being one of many, many issues that I ended up facing. Everything from their movers not bothering to wear masks during hours of packing up my apartment (despite me explaining the devastating effect it'd have if I tested positive during my pre-departure PCR test) to the delivery of my shipment being delayed by months. Yes, months. And despite of me keeping them updated about my search for a new home so that I had a place ready by the time my things arrived, they didn't even bother to update me about the delays. My agreed delivery date came and went and noone had even bothered to send me an email to let me know that in fact, my things were still somewhere in China at this point with no confirmed delivery date. So I ended up having to sleep on a blow up mattress in an empty house for nearly TWO months after the agreed delivery date. I asked them for a partial refund to cover the extra cost I had as I now had to buy items for the house to manage while waiting for my shipment and they point blank refused to refund anything. And let me just say - this chaos didn't come cheap - they charged me over USD 15,000 claiming they're one of the best international movers out there. When my things finally arrived, several pieces of furniture, clothes, etc were damaged beyond repair. I had paid for a service that was meant to include unpacking and instead I was left with all my boxes that I had to unpack myself and move all sorts of heavy items by myself across a three level house because they simply couldn't be bothered to do their job properly (that I had paid for). The only reason I'm giving them two stars instead of one is because my insurance claim was processed quickly and efficiently and the guy who handled that was great. I would never recommend this company to anyone. I understand that some of the delays in shipment was due to Covid and outside of their control but the complete lack of updates and transparent information was fully within their control and they simply didn't care about any of the stress the situation was causing me. All they cared about was to ensure they got paid and this was to be done before I even received my shipment. The customer service and care of this company was truly shocking and next time I'm on the move, I'll stay well and truly clear of this business!

If I could give ZERO stars, I would!
If I could give ZERO stars, I would. My move resulted in damaged furniture, including two beds that were disassembled by the movers and later left unusable, along with two boxes delivered completely wet. Since November, I sent countless emails and made repeated calls to the claims department. Responses were slow, inconsistent, and unhelpful. At one point, the assigned repair company confirmed they had no record of my claim, despite being told it was assigned. After months of delay, the claim was simply denied for technical reasons, with no practical resolution offered. Adding to the frustration, after all of this effort, I received an email stating that the claims representative I had been dealing with had left the company, which perfectly sums up the lack of organization and accountability throughout this process. I had to escalate the issue through the BBB and federal regulators just to be heard. This experience cost me an enormous amount of time and stress. I strongly do not recommend this company.

Literally the worst ... ever
These guys sub-contracted our packing and movement to the port to "Moving Solutions, Inc" of 8001 Moving Way, Mentor, Ohio. This was the worst experience we have ever had in 20 years of international moves. It started when they entered the house and had to be asked to put protective covers on the floors. We should have realized then. They damaged the house during packing and had to make repairs. They packed our good very poorly, including not labelling, incorrect labelling (when they did), poor/no protection to items, putting heavy items on top of smaller ones and much more ... They then left the stuffed container in our street ... unlocked. When I called them, they asked me to go to a store and buy a lock! The next morning, when my wife complained to them, they claimed this was 'normal', they had 'never had any problems'. The crew chief tried to bully her & only apologized when she stood up to him, with facts. Due to their poor packing, we had to pay for an additional 20" container and storage. When the goods arrived, in Belgium, the unpacking crew were genuinely horrified and told us they had never seen anything as bad in their careers. As a result, we cannot re-assemble many items because screws, struts are missing. Many other items, including hand-made furniture, glasses, espresso machine and much more is damaged, much of it beyond repair. Of course, they are now not answering emails or calls.

Attention a cette entreprise …
Most 4- or 5-star reviews are fake profiles. Every time you put a negative review, NPVL goes behind to put two positive ones. Check for yourself, and you'll see that those who leave the right reviews, are only for NPVL, whereas normal times in a year or two, an active Google profile will leave at least two or three. This company is an intermediary company that entrusts your moves to third parties. This explains the delay problem of delays that they do not master as well as all the other unpleasant situations that you will face. We waited almost a month to have our business contrary to the announced two-week deadline. We are missing a 33 KG carton, as well as other stuff, We have: damaged washing machine, my completely shattered PC the list is long. What's worrying is the fact that these people are using nicknames like Jams or any other surname to put people in confidence. If it's a company that offers a correct service why change its name...? We go to the small claim filed complaint so anyone who wants to join us is welcome
