Oracle, founded in 1977, offers advanced human resources (HR) solutions through its NetSuite SuitePeople HCM product. It boasts impressive HR management tools, including SuitePeople Payroll, an admin hub, and advanced analytics and reporting. NetSuite HCM is only available with custom pricing, but this means that you will only ever be paying for what you require. The user interface is packed full of features, but still quite easy to navigate.

Features and Add-ons

Oracle NetSuite offers a wide range of business software solutions. Its products include HR software and payroll solutions, along with an advanced CRM platform, global business-management tools, accounting software, project management tools, and much more. Each product is available as a module that you add to your NetSuite subscription.

Here, we focus on the company’s SuitePeople HR program. It offers a wide range of payroll and people-management tools, including everything from automatic tax filing to performance reporting. Notably, it does not offer benefits administration services for health insurance, 401(k)s, etc, so you will have to look elsewhere to cover these.

Some of SuitePeople HR’s noteworthy features include the following.

  • Automated payroll processing to save time and ensure payment is sent out in a timely manner.
  • An advanced admin dashboard where you can monitor employees, configure access controls, and stay up to date with company and department performance.
  • A neat performance-management portal that enables you to view and monitor the performance of individual employees based on metrics that you create.
  • Workforce management tools to help you keep track of compensation, benefits, and time off.
  • Powerful automatic onboarding tools to ensure new employees are made welcome to help them feel like they belong.
  • A self-service Employee Center that enables employees to view paychecks, update their personal details, view time off balances, and more.

If you do go with SuitePeople, you will be amazed at the sheer number of tools and features on offer.

Tax Compliance

NetSuite SuitePeople comes with a suite of automatic tax-management tools. For starters, the platform enables you to automate payments for local, state, and federal taxes. The correct amount will be calculated and paid to the relevant authorities with very little effort required on your behalf.

On top of this, NetSuite enables you to populate and save a range of forms. For example, you can prepare and file both W-2 and 1099 MISC forms at the end of the year, and ACA forms 1094c and 1095c can be automatically filled and printed or shared digitally.

Payment Options

With NetSuite’s SuitePeople Payroll, you will have access to an efficient, streamlined end-to-end payment processing solution. It’s a cloud-based program with numerous benefits, and the company claims that it reduces payroll processing times by up to 84%. You can print checks onsite or set up automatic direct deposits as required.

Pricing/Costs & Fees

NetSuite SuitePeople is available with custom pricing. All subscriptions are on an annual basis, and you will need to speak with the NetSuite team to find out more. It is specified that there are 3 main things that will contribute to the price you can expect to pay—use of the core NetSuite platform, the cost of add-on modules, such as SuitePeople, and the number of user licenses you require for employees, etc.

There’s no free trial or free version, but there is a neat product tour that you can use to help you decide whether it’s right for your needs. To access this, you will need to sign up via the online form and speak with the NetSuite sales team.

Usability

Due to the wide range of integrated products NetSuite offers, the exact interface you experience can vary. We took a close look at the SuitePeople interface, and we were amazed at the number of tools on offer.

We did find many aspects of SuitePeople to be a little cluttered. However, it does a great job of presenting a large amount of information in a clear, easy-to-understand manner. There’s even an employee-facing dashboard that your employees can use to keep track of their paycheck history and benefits.

While there is no desktop application, NetSuite is available through a browser-based web app, and there are downloadable mobile apps for iOS and Android. However, the app is very confusing, buggy, and difficult to use. Customers on both iOS and Android have been reporting issues for years, and there’s a severe lack of guides or tutorials detailing its often overly complicated tools.

Expect to spend a little time getting used to using Oracle NetSuite, but it shouldn’t be too complicated—as long as you don’t need to use the mobile apps too much.

Conclusion

Oracle’s NetSuite SuitePeople HR platform is up there with the best we’ve seen. It’s a part of Oracle’s large software ecosystem, making it a great option for those who already use some of the company’s products.

We particularly liked SuitePeople’s focus on automation. For example, there are various payroll automation tools designed to save a significant amount of time. Pricing is developed on a case-by-case basis to ensure you don’t pay more than you need to, and the user interface is packed full of features, if a little confusing.

If you’re looking for a powerful HR platform that’s scalable and packed full of additional features, we’d suggest taking NetSuite’s product tour to see if it’s right for you.
