What is Stony Brook University?

Stony Brook University is a public university founded in the state of New York in 1957. In 2023, in partnership with Springboard, it began offering online tech bootcamps.
Stony Brook provides tech bootcamps in five different areas of study:

  • Software engineering

  • Data science

  • Data analytics

  • UI/UX design

  • Cybersecurity

Bootcamps can be completed in six to nine months, depending on the program, or even faster — students can take the courses at their own pace.

In addition to administering and managing the courses, Springboard developed the curriculum for each bootcamp in partnership with industry experts and hiring managers. How Stony Brook’s Online Degree Programs Work

The tech bootcamps offered by Stony Brook allow working professionals to advance their careers without having to put their personal or professional lives on hold. Each bootcamp curriculum is delivered through a fully online platform that helps participants track their progress easily.

The curriculum is structured in modules, and each module has its own estimated completion time. You can use these estimates to plan how to fit taking the courses into your schedule, instead of building your whole schedule around learning.

Each bootcamp participant has a team of professionals working with them throughout every step of the course. Your team will include a student success manager, a career coach and a one-on-one industry mentor.

Every student is matched with a mentor who meets their professional goals or interests. Students have regular one-on-one conversations with their industry mentors throughout the camp.

Bootcamps also include an optional career curriculum in addition to access to a personal career counselor. If your goal is to switch careers or boost your skill set in your current role, these resources can help you create a job search plan, improve your resume, complete mock interviews, or learn how to negotiate a compensation package.

How to apply to Stony Brook University

The first step is to complete an application. If your application meets the bootcamp’s criteria, you’ll have a phone interview with an enrollment advisor. Then you have to complete a brief knowledge gap survey, which takes about half an hour.
