What Services and Features Does MetroNet Offer

MetroNet brings fiber-optic internet to more than 100 communities across the Midwest, with download and upload speeds up to an impressive 1GB per second.  All plans come with a wireless router, and you can opt for MetroNet’s WholeHome WiFi device to boost your WiFi signal and eliminate dead zones throughout an apartment or entire house.

MetroNet also offers Fiber TV, with on-demand movies and pay-per-view events, free music channels and HD channels, and parental controls. You can use the company’s free customization tool for channel recommendations based on your interests or choose one of the lineup packages.

Finally, MetroNet offers a fiber-optic phone service, with a number of useful features, including automatic anonymous call rejection, call forwarding and holding, caller ID, call transfer and waiting, repeat dialing, selective call rejection, three-way calling, and 1000 free domestic long distance minutes.

Prices, Plans, and Value for Money

MetroNet has 4 basic internet plans available, with optional add-ons for TiVo, Fiber TV, and a phone service. The basic plan costs $49.95 per month for 18 months, then $59.95 per month, and includes speeds of up to 100Mbps. The next tier increases speeds to 200 Mbps, then 500 Mbps, and finally 1Gbps, with pricing as follows:

There’s also a $9.95 technology service fee that includes the rental fee for your modem (ONT) as well as any maintenance and service for your cables or hardware. Finally, there’s a $25 installation fee, but you can have this waived by signing up for automatic payments.

Ease of Use, Hardware, and Setup

Once you’ve signed up for MetroNet’s service, you can schedule an appointment with a technician for installation, usually within 10 days. A few days before your installation date, a technician will come by to add an ONT box (the fiber-optic equivalent to a modem) and, if your power source is underground, place a temporary line on the ground. Installation usually only takes 2 to 4 hours. The technician will check the phone, TV, and internet connection before leaving.

MetroNet subscriptions come with a router, typically Linksys or Zyxel. MetroNet’s WholeHome WiFi service uses eero routers and costs an extra $9.95 per month. Of course, you can use your own router with MetroNet—just make sure it supports speeds at least equal to your plan.

The website has a useful knowledge base with instructions for Linsys, Zyxel, and eero.

MetroNet Security

MetroNet offers a Defense Internet Security service with support for multiple devices. It includes antivirus protection, banking protection, a firewall, password manager, ransomware protection, website blocker, and safe browsing mode. You can schedule regular virus scans and monitor files and folders for unauthorized changes. MetroNet Defense Internet Security works on Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS devices.

MetroNet Performance

MetroNet offers speeds ranging from 100 Mbps—which is enough for web browsing and streaming music—up to 1 Gbps—which will support online gaming, multiple people streaming at once, video conferencing, and downloading and torrenting. There are also no caps on data, which is unusual but very welcome.

Importantly, almost none of the reviews online include complaints of slow speeds, so it looks like MetroNet’s performance is about where it should be. In fact, many of the positive reviews cite the internet speeds as a main reason for liking the service, which is a good sign.

MetroNet Customer Service

If you need help with your MetroNet connection or any of your related devices, you have 2 options. The first is MetroNet’s knowledge base, which you can find on the website. This includes sections on installation, internet, streaming, television, and telephone, with a large library of helpful articles on how to use the service on a number of devices.

If you can’t find the answer you’re looking for here, MetroNet offers 24/7 technical support by phone (844-692-6184) and customer service for questions regarding your account during business hours (877-407-3224).
